Why choose thrive

Five reasons this school exists.

  1. 01

    Practise under supervision

Structured role play and recorded sessions, watched and unpicked.

  2. 02

    Learn the ethics first

Consent, confidentiality and the limits of your own competence.

  3. 03

    Serve the community

Awareness workshops in schools, with a supervisor in the room.

  4. 04

    Do real research

Ethics-approved studies on young people in Karachi.

  5. 05

    Know when to refer

The most professional skill in the field, taught as a skill.

What an undergraduate degree does and does not do

A specialisation names the field you study in depth. Practising clinically requires postgraduate qualification and licensure beyond this degree — in Pakistan and everywhere else. All practice on this programme is supervised, and community work is awareness and support, with clear referral boundaries. We would rather say this on the first page than the fourth year.

The purpose

A mental-health workforce a fraction of the size it needs.

Pakistan has a generation under pressure nobody prepared them for. Psychology here is usually taught from a textbook, with the first real conversation happening after graduation.

thrive was built to close that gap responsibly — supervised practice from early on, and community work that raises awareness rather than pretending to be treatment.

Inside the Educational Engine

The thrive Practice Floor

Not a lecture hall with a counselling module attached. Six rooms where skills are practised under supervision, observed, discussed — and then taken out into schools and communities.

01

Counselling skills rooms

Small, quiet, supervised.

Structured role play where students build listening and questioning as trained skills, not instincts.

02

Observation & practice suites

Watched and unpicked.

One-way observation and recorded sessions, reviewed in group supervision.

03

The community workshop space

Awareness, not treatment.

Sessions for visiting school students, parents and teachers — always with a supervisor present.

04

The campus wellbeing centre

For the whole university.

Student support, peer listening and signposting, staffed professionally and open to every school.

05

Youth resilience research lab

Real questions, locally.

Stress, coping, screen use and school pressure among Karachi’s young people.

06

Assessment & measurement

What a score is and is not.

Assessment literacy — what the common instruments do, and why a number is not a diagnosis.

The practice cycle

Six steps, ethics first

The cycle every supervised hour on this floor runs through.

  1. 01Awareness
  2. 02Observe
  3. 03Communicate
  4. 04Practise
  5. 05Serve
  6. 06Refer

Why it carries this name

Not cope. Not survive. Not fix.

Thrive — because the subject is not only what goes wrong in people but what allows them to do well.

It is an academic school and a community wellbeing platform in one: a school that studies people has an obligation to the people around it.

The practice record

A psychology graduate elsewhere leaves with a transcript. A thrive graduate leaves with a record.
